Simply put, CFE can be described with one word, "people." From generation to generation, CFE has been improving lives by offering financial solutions to help members achieve their financial goals. We strive to create lifelong relationships, and our efficient response to the ever-changing needs of our members at each new stage of life, makes the CFE experience truly unique.
At CFE, our promise is to always be there with each step along the individual financial paths of our members. Our genuine commitment, steadfast protection and unending support can only come from the most trusted of friends.
The Credit Union Difference
CFE is a credit union, not a bank. While credit unions resemble banks in many ways, offering a full array of financial services and products to meet your financial needs, there are many important distinctions. CFE Federal Credit Union is owned by our members. We do not have shareholders. Credit unions exist to serve members, not to make a profit. Once you’re a member, you’re always a member! Credit unions are characterized as:
Credit union savings are federally insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), administered by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). The NCUSIF, like the FDIC’s Deposit Insurance Fund, is a federal insurance fund backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government.
The foundation of CFE was laid by Central Florida educators, and while our membership has expanded, our commitment to education remains steadfast. We are active in the four school districts we serve, providing financial literacy and financial support; plus we have opened high school branches, which are staffed by students and located on campus. Additionally, CFE is an involved and active corporate citizen. We support numerous organizations in the community, and we have introduced a suite of environmentally friendly products to evidence our commitment to being "green." Our contributions in the community have earned CFE many awards.
More important than what CFE has to say about itself, is what our members are saying about CFE:
CFE Federal Credit Union was founded in 1937 as Orange County Teachers' Federal Credit Union. Twenty-three dedicated teachers became the credit union's charter members. At that time, the credit union offered members basic savings accounts and small loans.
Over the years, CFE FCU has grown from a small financial cooperative to the thriving credit union it is today with more than $1.4 billion in assets and approximately 129,000 members. CFE FCU is consistently recommended by BauerFinancial for its strength and security.
In November 2011, CFE Federal Credit Union merged with UCF Federal Credit Union bringing together two credit unions who share a heritage of service to education in Central Florida. Anyone who lives, works, attends school, volunteers, or worships in Orange, Osceola, Lake, or Seminole County may join. Qualified businesses and other entities may join as well.
Now, more people than ever before can take advantage of high-rate savings accounts, low-cost loans, online and mobile banking, and many other convenient services. Though the credit union's name has changed over time, CFE FCU remains true to the credit union philosophy of people helping people with a full range of financial products of value and convenience. Our dedication to providing members with unsurpassed service is as strong today as it was long ago. Service has always been the cornerstone of our success and longevity.
